The Salzburger Lungau, nestling between the Lower Tauern and the Nockberg Mountains, is a high plateau stretching across an area of 1.000 km. The Lungau can be reached from Salzburg via the Radstadt Tauern Pass, through the Tauern Tunnel or via a detour across the Trieben Tauern in Styria.

The 15 picturesque villages are all located in at least 1.000 metres above sea level. The region is one of the sunniest in Austria.

The marvellous natural landscape of the Salzburger Lungau has been put under special protection with the award "UNESCO Biosphere Park Salzburger Lungau Carinthian Nockberg Mountains".

This award promises a guaranteed authentic holiday experience in the mountains, at one of the 60 beautiful mountain lakes, with living traditions and customs and with nature-loving locals who don’t want to forget their roots.

With over 300 kilometres of pistes from the Katschberg to Obertauern and an excellent network of cross-country ski tracks and signposted winter hiking tours, this snow-reliable region invites to a winter holiday. The seven side valleys of the Lungau offer a wide range of mountain and summit tours. The Lungau is known as Eldorado for ski tourers.
